Who can board at Hukarere?

Hukarere Girls’ College provides education for learners in Years 9 to 13.

How many students live in the wharenoho?

Hukarere Hostel currently houses 42 students from across Aotearoa.

What makes Hukarere boarding different?

As the country’s oldest Anglican Māori boarding school for girls, Hukarere has spent more than 150 years shaping strong, capable, and confident wāhine. Our kōhine become part of a rich legacy, a supportive sisterhood, and a community that celebrates their identity, nurtures their potential, and prepares them for the opportunities ahead.

Is study supervised?

Yes. Boarders have structured study routines to support homework, assessment preparation and positive academic habits.

Are meals provided?

Yes. Shared meals are part of daily hostel life and help build routine, connection and responsibility. Our Wharenoho is catered by an outside provider.

How does leave work?

Leave must be approved through hostel processes and supported by whānau or approved contacts. Detailed leave expectations are provided to whānau as part of hostel onboarding.

Can whānau visit?

Yes, whānau connection is valued. Visits should be arranged with hostel staff so that student safety, routines and privacy are maintained.
