Whānau seeking financial support for school and boarding expenses can explore several external funding opportunities.
Below are links and resources detailing available grants, scholarships and boarding allowances.
Puāwaitanga Scholarship
The Puāwaitanga Scholarship was introduced by the Ministry of Education to support Māori students with leadership potential attending designated Māori Boarding Schools. This Scholarship is available to kōhine in Years 10 through to 13.
The main source of financial assistance that whānau use for hostel fees is the Boarding Allowance available through the Ministry of Education. Information on eligibility and how to apply, can be found on the Ministry of Education Website.
We also encourage whānau to contact their iwi or hapū to find out whether they offer education grants, scholarships, or boarding assistance to support their kōhine at Hukarere Girls' College.
